Donald Nicolson

Self-employed in the primary sector since 1979, Don has contributed in many advocacy and governance roles. This includes as a Trustee for the Southland Electric Power Supply Consumer Trust (SEPSCT) and numerous roles within Federated Farmers locally and nationally, culminating in 2008 by becoming the 27th National President of Federated Farmers of New Zealand and presiding over New Zealand’s largest primary sector Union.

Don is a director on the boards of PowerNet Ltd (from October 2015), The Power Company Limited (from August 2015) and Lakeland Network Ltd (appointed September 2017). He is also a member of the OtagoNet Joint Venture governing committee. Don retired from the role of chair on the PowerNet board on 31 December 2021.

Don actively researches, listens, assimilates data and applies the knowledge gained to his governance duties and the company’s strategic direction, whilst building respect with peers.
