Service Line Responsibilities
Power lines and equipment inside your property boundary are known as service lines or mains. As a general rule property owners are responsible for arranging the maintenance and repair of these lines and equipment.
PowerNet owns the lines and equipment up to the point of connection, which is usually at the boundary of your property and high voltage lines to the nearest transformer within your property.
If a fault occurs and is found to be on your side of the boundary, the cost of repair and possibly the call out charge will be your responsibility. In these circumstances PowerNet System Control or PowerNet’s contractor will keep in contact so that you can make informed decisions.
PowerNet is responsible for the repair of any faults on our electricity network or equipment due to deterioration.
Faults on our network caused by a third party are charged to those responsible for the damage, e.g. a tree dropping onto our power lines or equipment, hitting our power lines or equipment with a tractor or farm machinery, or a high load on a truck taking out our lines across a road.
Meters and ripple control units on the property are either the responsibility of PowerNet or your electricity retailer. If the problem is related to the meter or ripple control unit, either PowerNet or your electricity retailer will be responsible for the repair or replacement of the equipment.
Generally high voltage (11,000 volt) overhead lines, underground cables, switchgear and transformers on industrial or rural sites are owned and maintained by PowerNet.
