Business Decarbonisation and Growth
As a party to the Paris Agreement for climate change, New Zealand has made a binding commitment to reducing net greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050 including biogenic methane to below 24-47% of 2017 level. This presents an opportunity for PowerNet to work with our existing and new customers in their decarbonisation journey.
Decarbonisation or Business Growth projects include, but are not limited to:
- Electrification of process heat
- Electrification of space heating
- Electrification of transportation
- Hydrogen production
- New renewable generation sites
If you have any queries or decarbonisation projects that you would like to discuss with us, please see the process below and contact us.
Our Process
Step 1: Enquire and Discuss
- Get in touch with PowerNet to discuss your decarbonisation objectives and capacity requirements. We recommend contacting us early in your decarbonisation journey so we can help most effectively.
- A PowerNet representative will be assigned to liaise with you to discuss your requirements and support your decarbonisation journey
- PowerNet will do a high-level assessment to see whether there is sufficient network capacity, or whether a network upgrade is required.
- If there is sufficient network capacity available, the connection will go through our standard connection process.
- If there is insufficient network capacity available and network upgrade is required, the customer will decide whether to progress and request higher accuracy information on capacity and pricing. This requires detailed network study and design and engaging PowerNet’s consulting services. To do this, proceed to step 2.
Step 2: Engage
- PowerNet will liaise with the customer to prepare a consulting contract with scope, timeframes and estimated cost of consulting service.
- PowerNet will start consulting service (detailed study and design) after the customer signs the agreement.
- If the study shows that additional capacity upgrades will be required, then a full commercial quote and term for the upgrade will be prepared for your consideration (if part of the scope).
Step 3: Upgrade and Connect
- The customer reviews the commercials and contract terms and decides to proceed with the upgrade and connection to our network.
- Once contracts are signed and initial payment is received, PowerNet will progress with any required upgrades and connection to the network.
- The network upgrade is complete and ready to support your decarbonisation journey.
