Pioneer Schemes

Sometimes, the first person to connect in a new area needs to fund an extension of PowerNet’s network (for example, we need to build new infrastructure to connect you to our network).
PowerNet has always made sure that these costs are spread fairly across later customers. Under new rules introduced in April 2026, we are also implementing a Pioneer Scheme Policy for significant extensions to our network.  This means if you are the first to connect to the network (the ‘pioneer’), you may receive contributions back if others benefit from your connection in future.

PowerNet’s Pioneer Scheme Policy applies to connections over $50,000 where those connections are not related developments that have the purpose of on-selling.
