More than 100 customers have had their power restored, thanks to a temporary generator brought in through knee-deep snow.
Hundreds of customers on PowerNet’s OtagoNet network have been impacted by snow which brought down powerlines and poles in the region between Sunday night and Tuesday morning.
PowerNet crews from Gore, Invercargill, Balclutha, Palmerston, and Ranfurly have been working to undertake repairs and get a temporary solution up and running for those who have been without power for almost 72 hours.
The generator is providing electricity to approximately 100 customers in the Hindon area, however about 80 customers still remain without power in Clarks Junction, Ranfurly-Kyeburn Diggings, Middlemarch-Bald Hill, and Merton-Hummock.
PowerNet crews will be working until dark to get electricity restored to as many people as possible, however everyone affected should prepare to be without power overnight.
Further snow is also expected in the area tonight and in the early hours of tomorrow morning. This could hamper restoration efforts over the coming days and could mean further outages occur.
Anyone who has had their power restored, only for it to go out again, or if they have not yet reported that their power is out, should call PowerNet on 0800 808 587.
PowerNet will continue to provide updates via its Facebook page and website.
