Southland District Council and PowerNet have formalised a new contract for management of the electricity supply network on Stewart Island/Rakiura.

The five-year contract, with potential for renewal, should ensure improved resilience, reliability and efficiency of the Stewart Island Electrical Supply Authority (SIESA) network and delivery, Southland District Council commercial infrastructure manager Ashby Brown says.

SIESA is owned by Southland District Council but the network will continue to be operated and managed by PowerNet.

Mr Brown is pleased with the enhanced collaborative partnership, which he says will result in PowerNet with expanding its service offering greater support of the contract and operators on the island.
