Working in snow one day and the heat of Central Otago the next is just one of the many things that makes PowerNet Central a special place to work.
Many decades of combined experience in the electrical and electricity supply industries has given the PowerNet Central team a proven track record throughout New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Islands.
Focused on the Queenstown Lakes region, the company in its current form came about following the legislative changes to the electricity industry in 1998 and changes to the Central Otago network. Director Murray Popenhagen saw an opportunity to establish a private contracting company based out of Queenstown specialising in customer focused design and installation of reticulation systems.
All PowerNet Central management team have experience at the “front-end” of the electricity industry whether as electricians or engineers.
With specialties unique to the Queenstown region (such as extensive ski area experience), PowerNet Central is also an industry leader in high voltage networks, subdivision reticulation, transformer installation and refurbishment, and the design and construction of electricity networks.
The company also manages and maintains the growing Electricity Southland network in the Queenstown area and acts as an agent of PowerNet for customer enquiries, network connections and metering.
PowerNet Central also holds the exclusive agency status for Ferranti Tapchangers Ltd and Associated Tapchangers Limited (ATL), a division of Brush Transformers.
With nearly 20 staff and a capability that extends across the lower South Island, PowerNet Central leads the way in the Queenstown Lakes District.
